Removing Pen on Leather

A lot of people ask us how to remove pen from leather, especially when their kids write on their sofa’s with pen!

This is a short article designed to teach novices how to get pen off leather, using professional pen removal product and techniques. Furniture Clinic do a product specifically designed at removing pen from leather, called Leather Ink Remover Kit. We’ll be using this product to remove pen off leather.

How to remove pen from leather

1. It is always best to clean the leather first, we recommend using Leather Ultra Clean to do this.

2. Open the Leather Ink Remover kit and apply some of the liquid ink remover onto a cotton wool bud (provided in the kit).

3. Gently dab the pen mark and the cleaning solution will start to lift the pen from the leather. As the pen is removed the cotton wool bud will become stained, make sure you rotate the bud or switch to a new one to prevent putting pen back onto the leather!

4. Once you have successfully removed the pen stain from the leather, we recommend cleaning the leather again using Leather Ultra Clean.

Stop pen on leather in the future: If you had applied Leather Protection Cream to the leather beforehand and someone drew on the leather with a pen you could have easily cleaned it off using a normal leather cleaner such as Leather Ultra Clean. This is because Leather Protection Cream forms a barrier that keeps the pen off leather, preventing it from penetrating into the hide.

So once you have removed the pen mark from the leather following the above instructions, it is very advisable to apply Leather Protection Cream to help make future pen stains easier to clean off!
